What LAMS approved means

LAMS is short for the Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme. Queensland calls it the LAM Scheme.

Who it is for

In Queensland, if you hold an RE licence (learner, provisional or open), you can only ride a learner approved motorcycle.

Which bikes

Almost any standard motorcycle or scooter with an engine up to 250 mL is learner approved. A few models are left out. Our Honda Dio 110, Suzuki Address and Honda CB125 are all LAMS approved.

Keep it standard

A bike that has been modified, other than in the ways the scheme allows, is no longer learner approved.

Riding on L plates

Show an L plate on the back of the bike, or wear a vest with a capital L. Ride with a supervisor who has held an open licence for at least 1 year. No passengers. Your alcohol limit is zero.

This is a summary, not legal advice. Check the official pages for your own situation.
